As fall sets in, it’s the perfect time to refresh your home by decluttering key areas. The changing weather and shift in routines make early September an ideal time to clean up and get organized. Here’s what to focus on decluttering this season:

1. Summer Gear

With summer ending, pack away warm-weather items like pool floats, beach towels, and outdoor furniture. If anything is broken or never used, it’s time to discard or donate it.

2. Clothing

Sort through your summer wardrobe, donating items you didn’t wear. Bring out your fall and winter clothes, and assess what still fits and is in good condition. Donate or recycle anything worn out or no longer needed.

3. Pantry & Kitchen

As you gear up for comfort foods and holiday cooking, clean out expired pantry items and unused summer snacks. Clear space in your fridge and freezer for seasonal ingredients.

4. Entryways & Mudrooms

Prepare for the wet, cold months by decluttering your entryway. Store summer shoes and gear, and discard old or worn-out footwear and outerwear. Create organized storage for coats, boots, and fall essentials.

5. Home Office or Study Space

With back-to-school in full swing and new work routines, declutter your office or study. Shred old paperwork, organize supplies, and get rid of outdated electronics to create a more efficient workspace.

6. Kids’ Toys & Gear

Sort through summer toys, clothes, and school supplies. Donate items your kids have outgrown or no longer play with. This helps streamline your home as new school routines take over.

7. Holiday Decor

Before holiday decorating begins, go through your existing items. Toss anything broken or unwanted, and only keep what you truly love and will use this season.

8. Gardening Tools

Wrap up your gardening season by decluttering your tools and supplies. Discard broken or outdated tools, and organize your shed or garage to keep everything ready for next spring.

By decluttering now, you’ll create a cleaner, more organized space for fall and be better prepared for the cozy months ahead. Need help tackling those larger projects? Contact Elysian Organizing Services to make your seasonal decluttering easier and more efficient!
